Agreed. If this were a matter of underage explicit art, I would support LiveJournal's decision. But LJ abuse stated directly that the picture did not violate the TOS in this manner- it simply lacked artistic merit.

I demand to know by what grounds LJ decides this. I also demand to know how a lack of merit- if this is the picture's only crime, which LJ has claimed- is hurtful to anyone. A waste of time, perhaps, but if we made our decisions based on that, LJ would probably be out of business!

Whatever time he made the comment is a moot point. He used his work account for a personal post that has offended pretty much every paying customer who has seen it, including ones who don't even care about fandom. When someone uses work-sponsored technology for a personal purpose, no matter what time of day or where that event occurs, they are subject to the policies of their corporation. If LJ is as professional as it attempts to be, they would have a policy against this, or they'll quickly make one. They seem to be good at making up rules when it suits them.

I have stayed entirely out of this until now, but I very, very much do not appreciate the fact that LJ, which responded to single not obviously underage pornography with complete bans under the premise, apparently, that the characters had once been underage ... well, I don't feel like it opened up discussion properly or examined the situations fully. Again.

Moreover, there is a difference between setting a policy and sticking to their guns (though badly, apparently; no warnings? No exchange of communication? No room for artistic lisence in aging characters up) and acting, to all extents and purposes, as if these bans were set because you dislike fandom.

This is the impression you give when you leave comments like this. As though you, yeah, dislike fandom and find it not worth consideration, never mind that these are customers. Who pay you money.

Also, you apparently fail at the first rule of customer service which is not to badmouth an entire section of your customers. Publicly.

What an utterly revolting and crass thing to say, especially for an employee of LJ/6A.

As a member of fandom who was molested at that age by, you know, REAL predators and not pictures of non-existant wizards or those who create them, I'm not only disgusted, but enraged that you would lump fans -- ESPECIALLY the many of us who are sexual abuse survivors -- in with pedophiles.

Reposting of misplaced comment in appropriate thread in assurance of reaching proper party.

Amazement that LJ employee has actually found fanart containing six year olds as in my years in fandom I have observed very little art being drawn that young.

Remark that employee seems to have talent in finding pornography of this nature.

Speculation that if said employee stopped looking for porn and trolling on his off days and addressed user concerns he might be doing his job a bit better.

Pithy apology about levelling obviously untrue personal insults. Justification citing general frustration and outrage that employee thought it was even remotely appropriate to make such jokes before all issues, including banned artwork which specifically pointed out subjects' of-age status, were officially resolved.

Satisfaction that I have never given LJ money except for a $1 rose graphic once.

Explicative and general wishings of good riddance.

Disbelief, regardless, that OP thought it was wise to make light of a situation in which so many people are up in arms, in the first place. Inquiry as to how OP thought this was a good idea. Note that nothing about the userinfo indicates that, and per LJ's own standards regarding judgment calls and what userinfo says, face value is more or less all we've got.

Pointing out of basic conflict: Either fiction and RP are not the same as personal beliefs and statements, or they are. If the former (as you suggest here), then the issue wouldn't be available for mockage, as everyone would understand that a drawn image of fictional men in a sexual pose is not an endorsement or expression of child porn or obscenity. If the latter, then Burr cannot separate his RP persona from his own, and comments to the effect that his use of the same LJ for commentary here and in settings in which he speaks for the company is probably a bad idea are probably valid.

Comment that actually, either way, it's probably a bad idea for exactly the reason you are seeing here: people seeing the comments out of context, with no way to garner any sense of whether statements are tongue in cheek or to what degree are somewhat likely to acquire ideas the company as a whole would rather they didn't.

For everything that's been done, I expected that the business/professional side of this argument to remain as such. We use this website for PERSONAL means and that includes porn, macros, fanfiction, messages to each other, journal entries, etc. As such, we are allowed to be immature about our lives and our hobbies in this place. However, you people run this place as a JOB, CAREER and as a BUSINESS and as such, are held to the standard of MAINTAINING A PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE. As disappointed as I am in the reactions of various people instead of handling this situation in a calm and rational manner, I am even more disappointed in the way it's being handled on this end. This is not professionalism at all.
